Limited Capacity filling up

This workshop will present a lesson that combines geometry and sculpture, inviting participants to engage in hands-on activities to explore this link. By relating a subject like geometry to a practical purpose such as sculpture the student will realize that the formulas and calculations they are performing have a practical application. Using the four principles of design: balance, movement, proportion and variety, participants will have a hands on opportunity to experience the the role that geometry plays in the aesthetics of a sculpture. Through papercraft and photography, participants will examine the composition of shapes and use photographs to document the results. While the examples used in this session draw from the Grade 8 and 9 math curriculum and highlight competency 3: communicate using mathematical language, it will be of interest to anyone looking to create cross-curricular opportunities.
